The Rocky Point substation is part of the Valley Link 765kV project. This proposed 765kV substation is the termination point for the northern Valley Link line.
The Rocky Point substation is expected to be sited roughly 2 miles south of the Doubs substation in Frederick County, Maryland and it is proposed to be connected to the Doubs substation.
The site is located in Frederick County, Maryland it is to be built on an 800 or so acre property behind the Rocky Point Creamery. The property is currently owned by FirstEnergy affiliate Potomac Edison. Valley Link will buy that property from its sister company Potomac Edison (and we'll pay for it.)
The actual equipment (gravel area) footprint will be around 65 acres. It will be one of the largest in the country.
If constructed, it will house the 765kV Valley North line, along with three 500kV lines coming out of Doubs and heading down the shore of the Potomac to data center alley.
It will be designed to be expandable for even more data center extension cords in the future. This will become a major "hub" for additional transmission lines to serve new and expanding data centers in both Maryland and Virginia.
